My Philosophy

Professional Experience

I have had a lifelong passion for the exploration of the human experience, which was the motivating factor in becoming a therapist. I am intrigued by what drives human impulse and experience. In particular, I am curious about how our brains, hearts and body systems are patterned to both benefit personal growth, as well as, cause behaviors that create roadblocks to thriving. It is my belief that a combination of self-acceptance and awareness can assist people in living a more wholehearted life.

As a therapist it is my goal to help my clients unearth their innate strengths, apply abundant self-acceptance, find comfort in vulnerability and help develop internal resources that can sustain the turbulence of life. I aspire to create a connected environment to explore the entire range of human experience.

Being a human is an incredible exercise in tolerating thoughts and emotions, to name a few:  joy, social awkwardness, grief, anxiety, delight, playfulness, anger, neutrality, and sorrow.  We are creatures gifted and plagued with the ability to experience life in a very lively and stimulating way.  I see the human phenomenon as fascinating, vast, and at times utterly overwhelming.  It is not always an easy road, I have found that in connection it can be a great opportunity for growth.

As a partner, I aspire to learn the depth of complexity between my partner and myself, while hopefully applying ample humor, love, and kindness along the way. I believe that when people enter into intimate relationships there is a co-creation that occurs. Each person is coming to the table with their own family systems that have a unique set of spoken and unspoken rules. My partner and I are constantly inviting awareness into murky waters and resting in sustained love. I believe intimate relationships are fertile ground for personal growth, as they poignantly hold a paradox of safety and vulnerability at the same time.

As a parent of three, I marvel at how each of my children entered the world with different gifts and challenges and work hard to understand how to parent with a diverse pallet to their specific styles. Parenthood is a huge teacher in my life.  It has literally thrown me to my knees in humble surrender and taught me a love that is hard to fathom.  When relating to others, I draw upon the continual teachings of parenthood.

As an active community member, particularly focused on civil, human and environmental rights, I have many memories marching on weekends with my parents for human equality, developing core principles that continue in raising my own children. These early childhood memories nurtured grit in my being and planted a seed that has grown into a true value for serving the whole.  Just as we are a part of a family system that influences us the same applies to our societal system. In a world that is made up of privilege, power, and injustice we are only as strong as the whole that we are contained within.  It gives me a sustained purpose that I deeply cherish to participate in visioning a world that is open and accepting to all humans.

Specific Community Involvement: As a volunteer and member of Family Rooted and Rooted Youth Group. These interwoven groups serve queer, gender awesome, and trans youth and their primary caregivers as they transition into adolescence.

As an advocate for gender expansive folx, As a person who identifies as a non-binary demi womxn, I believe and know gender to be quite misunderstood in our culture. Gender is not determined by what is declared at birth, but rather what a person knows their gender to be. It is my passion to raise awareness and educate people regarding the non-binary expanse that gender encompasses.
